A new theory about what happened Lord Lucan after he murdered Sandra Rivett in 1974 emerged this week. According to the Daily Mail, he shot himself and was then fed to a tiger at John Aspinall's zoo in Kent. I don't believe a word of it, but the Lucan story has always fascinated me. The best picture.

Stephen Raphael and Philippe Marcq, like pretty much the rest of the country at the time, are talking about Lord Lucan.
It is November 1974 and just hours earlier the 39-year-old aristocrat had vanished, leaving behind the bloodied body of the family nanny Sandra Rivett β€” whom he had apparently mistaken for his wife and bludgeoned to death.
Scroll down for video Philippe Marcq, pictured right, an old friend of Lord Lucan, pictured left, said he was told the aristocrat 'shot lord aspinall and had his body fed to a tiger' Mr Raphael and Mr Marcq, both wealthy stockbrokers, knew Lucan better than most.
And, indeed, it is a question that remains as pertinent today as it did then.
In the four decades that have since passed, a thousand and one theories have been put forward as to what has become of him.
Most revolve around the belief that having fled the grisly scene, he headed abroad to live out the rest of his days in anonymity.
And so it is that sightings of Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan, have been reported across the lord aspinall, everywhere from Africa to India to New Zealand.
None has ever been substantiated.
Mr Marcq said Lucan was eaten by a tiger at a private zoo in Kent owned by John Aspinall, pictured But what Mr Raphael was about to tell Mr Marcq all those years ago would suggest that Lord Lucan suffered a very different fate.
And until now, it is a story that he has never shared with a single living soul.
Mr Marcq claims that Mr Raphael told him that in the early hours of the morning after the murderous attack, Lucan had travelled to a private zoo in Kent owned by his close friend John Aspinall, founder of the Clermont Club.
There, he and other friends, Mr Raphael included, held a frank discussion about what the future now held for him.
Specifically, they told him that what he had done meant he would inevitably lose contact with his children for good.
As a result his wife, Veronica, with whom he was engaged in an acrimonious custody battle, would not only get them but the family trust as well.
To prevent this happening, it was necessary for Lucan to disappear completely.
Without a body and proof of death, the law stated, probate could not be granted on his estate for at least seven years.
By this time his children, the eldest of whom was ten, would be just about old enough to take control of their own affairs.
Instead, it is claimed, a pistol was offered to Lucan who took it, went into a room on his own and shot himself dead.
If that is not sensational enough, what follows is a truly macabre denouement.
He was telling me very seriously and him telling me was a sign of considerable trust.
It was a secret I could not betray β€” and, until now, I have not.
However, the Presumption of Death Act, which came into force in 2014, has given him a new avenue by which to bring legal closure to the matter.
Beyond that dramatic intervention, few further details were forthcoming.
But the Mail can reveal that the information referred to came from Mr Marcq.
Soon after, he was made the managing director of stockbroking firm E.
Hutton and was introduced to Mr Raphael, a London-based stockbroker.
We became not just acquaintances, but friends.
And we both played backgammon.
Set up by Aspinall, it attracted the cream of society, both new and old money.
Those whom Mr Marcq rubbed shoulders with included lord aspinall James Goldsmith and Selim Zilkha, the founder of Mothercare.
Other regulars at its beige tables were actor Peter Sellers, Bond creator Ian Fleming and artist Lucian Freud β€” not to mention a host of aristocrats.
Mr Marcq played backgammon there three or four times a week, from 6pm until the early hours.
Lucan β€” nicknamed Lucky Lucan β€” was an almost ever-present click the club and would take part in these games.
George Bingham, left, who is trying to obtain a death certificate for his father Lord Lucan.
Lucan is generally believed lord aspinall have killed her while mistaking her for his estranged wife, for whom she had gone to the kitchen to get a cup of tea.
Lady Lucan was herself also attacked.
After struggling with her assailant β€” whom she identified to police as being her husband β€” she managed to escape and raise the alarm.
From London, Lucan is then known to have driven to the Sussex home of friends Ian and Susan Maxwell-Scott, where he wrote a number of letters before heading off again.
The next day his blood-stained car was found abandoned in free download all new games for pc port of Newhaven, East Sussex.
And after that, absolutely nothing.
According to what he says Mr Raphael told him, as he fled London, Lucan also visited his brother-in-law Bill Shand Kydd, who advised him to call Aspinall.
You are a murderer.
You tried to kill your wife out of desperation for your children and so they would be free from her influence.
But you can achieve a similar result by disappearing.
For years it was rumoured Lucan, pictured, had fled the country after allegedly murdering the nanny The body, he says, was then fed to a tiger named Zorra.
But at the same time, he says that knowing those involved he could understand their logic at the time.
None of the principal players are still alive, making it impossible to seek corroboration.
Also, the available evidence is contrary.
In 1970, family friend Robin Birley, then 11 and the son of society nightclub owner Mark Birley, was mauled by the same tiger, Zorra, at Howletts.
It is also thought that Aspinall kept Zorra in a cage in his London garden for a time, and that one day when he took it for a walk down the street on a leash it swiped the head off a large dog which had bounded up to greet it.
A decade after Robin Birley was attacked, two keepers were killed at Howletts weeks apart by a Siberian tigress called Zeya.
Aspinall was forced to shoot her.
As well as Aspinall, they were gambling expert Dan Meinertzhagen, Bill Shand Kydd, racing tipster and gambler Charles Benson, Stephen Raphael and portrait painter Dominic Elwes.
All are now dead β€” Elwes committing suicide in 1975 after being ostracised by the others for speaking too freely about the missing peer.
And if he was not there for the lunch β€” he said he was in Ireland at the time β€” how could he have possibly been present for the dawn meeting, as Mr Marcq claims?
As for the suggestion that Lucan visited Shand Kydd on the night he vanished, that, too, must be open to question.
Had he already seen him, would that really have been necessary?
Over all phoneky android games download years, the Clermont Set were often asked to give their opinion as to what they thought had happened to Lucan.
The police say it is too difficult for a man to dispose of his own body, but my own feeling is that he has done so.
check this out saw him the night before the murder for dinner at the Clermont Club.
We were discussing going to California to play in a private backgammon tournament.
He is a man of enormous virtue and honour.
He could rely on many friends to help with advice.
If these startling new claims are true, then his fate was rather different β€” and the infamous peer was, in fact, served lord aspinall as breakfast to a hungry tiger.
