A slot car sometimes, slotcar or track car is a powered miniature auto or other vehicle that is guided by a groove or slot in the track on which it runs.

Digital slot cars generally use a controller that is trigger operated, though the rheostat housing is replaced by a slim bulge containing the electronics.
On most tracks, a driver will plug or clip his personal controller to his lane's "driver's station", which has wired connections to the power source and track rails.
Modern controllers usually require three connections - one to the power terminal of the driver's station customarily whiteone to the brake terminal redand one to the track terminal black.
Conventional slot car tracks are wired in one of two ways: with the power terminal connected to the power source positive and the brake terminal negative called "positive gate"or the other way around "negative gate".

I think these guys were motivated to make the trip because of our decision to run Neo cars for the first time in my 10 years involvement with MARC.

It was great to race with these guys, reminding me once again that as members of MARC we really need to reciprocate and travel beyond our beloved New England area.
Spec Racers — Both Divisions Pro Spec Racer Podium - Ryan Archambault 4th, Sam Heller 3rd, John Pileggi 2nd and Rob Hayes 1st With Victor, Jonathan and Wayne sitting out the spec racer class, we had 22 racers sign up for a very long round robin event — approximately 3 hours long.
Racing for a podium spot was tight in the Pro division with only 5 laps separating the top 4 positions.
Rob Hayes took the win by a lap over John Pileggi; Sam Heller made the trip to New England worthwhile by taking third two laps behind John but two up on 4 thplace finisher Ryan Archambault.
In the Sportsman division Hal Pierce beat Sportsman Spec Racer Podium - Hal Pierce 1st, Don Hall 2nd, Terry Ayer 3rd and Paul Crosby 4th Donny Hall for the win by 3 laps followed by Terry Ayer in third and Paul Crosby in 4 th.
Modifieds — Sportsman Division For the second race, the Sportsman division ran Modifieds on the Boomerang Paul Crosby capped off a very successful season by taking his sixth win in the Championship division.
Erik Eckhardt, taking a break from the Pro division, tried to keep Paul honest but fell 5 laps short in this effort.
Donny Hall finished 3 rd followed by Hal Pierce in 4 th.

Wayne Wallace had a good run beating Jim Macartney to the finish by sections to take down second place.

The last time this track was used for Gravity Car racing was at the 2016 Nats where Scott Terry won with a total of 125.
For this race, the field consisted of 10 M20 motored anglewinders and one M20 sidewinder.
Gravity Race Podium - Paul Ryer 1st, Rob Hayes 2nd, John Reimels 3rd and Peter Lentros 4th While racers dug out their AFX cars for practice, the mini-motored cars seemed to be the best option however, to be totally honest, no one had an AFX car as good as the one built by Joel.
The battle for link top spot was close with the top four finishing within 3 laps of each other with Paul Ryer taking down the win by virtue of his performance in the gutter lanes.
Following Paul Gravity Race Podium - Bottom Side - Paul Ryer 1st, Rob Hayes 2nd, John Reimels 3rd and Peter Lentros 4th home in second was Rob Hayes with his modified Scott Terry anglewinder, one lap behind Paul.
In third was John Reimels using one of his center-hinged anglewinders followed by Peter Lentros using a pickup shoe anglewinder built by John Reimels.
The check this out for fifth was equally tight with Donny Hall finishing one lap ahead of Mike Tiffany and three ahead of Tommy Gray.

Paul Crosby had a conflict so the field was down to ten.
Once again, the battle for the top spot was very close, this time only three laps separated the top 5.
Rob Hayes got his revenge on Paul Ryer beating him to the line by half a lap.
Peter Lentros finished third, 2 laps down on Rob followed by John Reimels and Donny Hall another lap down; John T-Jet Race Podium - Rob Hayes 1st, Paul Ryer 2nd, Peter Lentros 3rd and John Reimels 4th beating Donny by half a lap.

While the track was immaculate, the computer running the race was less so.
At the conclusion of the race, the computer crashed making retrieving the results impossible.
While everyone claimed to have won the race, I believe the actual winner was Cody Pare but without proof, the race had to be abandoned.

It was great to see a healthy eleven racers for the gravity race proving that even in the crowded New England HO race calendar, gravity racing is craving out its own niche.

The track was in immaculate shape in large part due to the alignment pins that Dan and Peter Lentros developed, no more shimming track sections to get even transitions between sections.
Also, the 4-lane configuration eliminated much of the mayhem created by the typical tight 6-lane Scorpion tracks that we race on.
As practice got underway, two things became evident — first, the general feeling from the crowd was that these cars were faster than expected on ho slot car racing pro qualifying track and, second, the red gutter lane was a real handful.
The blue, white and yellow lanes were fast with a great natural rhythm; the red lane required patience and a lot of finesse to master — get through red and then blast through the other lanes — more easily said than done.
Dan and Ryan Archambault had a great battle in the Pro division matching lane totals in the red, blue and white lanes.
It came down to a one lap difference in yellow giving Dan the victory over Ryan.
Slightly off the pace of the dynamic duo was Rob Hayes in 3 rd and Tom Gray in 4 th.
Sportsman — Modifieds Sportsman Modified Podium - Terry Ayer 1st, O'Jimmy Colligan 2nd, John Schoenfeld 3rd and Mike Tiffany 4th Next up was the Sportsman division running Modifieds.
Managing the heat buildup was crucial as a few racers soon learned — 5 minutes heats take a toll on the armatures if the car is set up too low to the rails.
John Schoenfeld ran a very consistent race taking down third followed by Mike Tiffany in 4 th.
Hal Pierce suffered a Pro CMPM Podium - Ryan Archambault 4th, Rob Hayes 3rd, John Reimels 2nd and Dan Decosmo 1st The last race of the day had the Pros running CMPM — a breath-taking experience on this fast track!
Watching these cars fly around the track was almost as much fun as racing them nah, running them was MUCH more fun — JR.
With the down-force generated by these cars, the red lane had the same rhythm as the other lanes with a well set-up car.
John Reimels tried to keep Dan honest but fell 5 laps short allowing Dan to take the victory with a 507 lap total, 95 laps more than he had in the Spec Racer event.
Rob Hayes managed to take 3 rd beating Ryan Archambault to the finish by 4 laps.

John Reimels Mike Tiffany practicing on Paul Ryer's South Shore Speedway Hingham, MA April 7, 2019 — Six racers made it to Hingham for our first ever event on a Sunday.
With only six racers, we decided to insert 2 dummy entries so we could run all 4 lanes with 3 racers per heat allowing for 3 marshals.
We also changed up the order of the races, we usually run a gravity race first, followed by a T-Jet race and then end the day with a second gravity race.
Because I had to leave after the second race, we changed up the order so the gravity races were run back-to-back one advantage to organizing the events….
Paul Ryer was running an anglewinder with necked in rails that he built a few months ago.
I was running my first attempt at building a pickup shoe car — a non-center hinged car using the front of a BSRT chassis grafted to a brass nose piece.

I used a center-hinged wiper car with real soft torsion bars, Jim borrowed my pickup shoe car while Tommy Gray and Mike stayed with their original rides.
Once everyone finished tuning their controllers to the cars they were running, we were ready for round 2.
Paul promptly put the car back in his box saving his good stuff ho slot car racing pro qualifying the Nats.
I finished second with the same lap total I got in the first race.
I guess pickups are as fast as wipers without the fuss.
Mike Tiffany finished third, 2 laps off his pace from the first race.
Tommy Gray got 4 laps more than race one but finished one position lower in 4 th.

Considering the fact that the Spec Racer uses far less expensive motor and traction magnets, much more expensive silicone sponge tires and is limited to a 23-tooth gear but uses same armature this win brought out some discussions after this event on the need to still run Super Stock any longer within MARC.
Second place finisher Rob Hayes also ran an incredible race also breaking the Super Stock record with a lap total of 506.
Taking the fourth podium spot was Stez with 470.

Top honors in the Sportsman Class in Spec Racer w Rent to Oh Jimmie.
Oh Jimmy ran a very good race with a lap total of 327.

Just behind Oh Jimmy Colligan was Dave Muse with a 441.

John Pileggi presently holds the Super Stock record of 362.
Today no records were broken but racing was fast and furious.
Stez would take the checkered flag by a narrow margin over 2nd place finisher Ryan Archambault.
Stez would mow down 354.
Stez would finish the race in the first spot but was the only driver in the top four finishers that never broke a lap time under three seconds.
Stez had a best lap time of 3.
Stez had a best lap total on blue with a 93 while Ryan had a best on yellow with a 93.
Ryan had a tough red lane managing only 80 laps while Stez on red did 86.
John Pileggi finished the race by taking the third position.
His best lap time was 2.
Interestingly John scored lap totals of 89 on blue, yellow and white and like Ryan got hurt on red with an 83 lap total.
Rob Hayes always finishes well on the Lady Gray and today was no exception.
Rob took the fourth position laying down 339.
Rob did really well on white and blue lane scoring 88 laps each.
He posted a 2.
Rob almost matched Stez on gutter red with a 85 lap total but in rare form for Rob on this track turned in a 78 on yellow and it cost him.

Making the show were Gary Hallenbeck and Gerd Wolny from Albany, while this might have been their first MARC race of the season, they came with their A Game — Gerd taking down victories in both Super Stock races Sportsman and Pro with Gary taking down 2 nd in both Sportsman races Open Weight and Super Stock — way to go guys!
Open Weight Cars The field is combined for our first race of the day ho slot car racing pro qualifying after an hour and a half of practice, 17 Sportsman Open Weight Podium - Pete Medeiros 1st, Gary Hallenbeck 2nd, Terry Ayer 3rd and Mike Tiffany 4th drivers lined up for a round robin event.
Rob Hayes finished a respectable 3 rd learn more here off the pace of the top two finishers.
Tom Gray borrowed a car from Ryan Archambault and pushed Rob hard for a top three spot on the podium but fell 3 laps short.
Following close behind Tom was MARC Director, Paul Ryer, making his return after a two-race absence.
Pete Medeiros jr was Pro Open Weight Podium - Greg Burstein 1st, Ryan Archambault 2nd, Rob Hayes 3rd and Tom Gray 4th the top sportsman in the field finishing 7 th overall.
Pete was followed by Gary Hallenbeck, Terry Ayer and Mike Tiffany filling the podium for the Sportsman division.
After the Open Weight race, we had an awesome lunch of home-made lasagna, a welcome respite from our usual pizza fare.
The dynamic duo from Albany dominated the race with Gerd taking down the victory beating Gary to the line by 20 laps.
Super Stock — Pro As is the tradition in MARC events, the winner of the Sportsman race has the choice to join Pro SUper Stock Podium - Gerd Wolny 1st, Rob Hayes 2nd, Greg Burstein 3rd and Ryan Archambault 4th the Pros for their event.
Gerd took advantage of this tradition and accomplished a rare feat, taking down the victory in the Pro event also.
Rob Hayes kept Gerd honest in this event but fell short by 3 laps taking down 2 nd.
John Big Crowd at LenJet Raceway Ashland Massachusetts, February continue reading, 2019 With 24 racers in attendance, we set a Running F1 G-Jets on the Bear new season high mark for participation.
The track is in great shape, well suited for G-Jets.
With a few drivers sitting out the first race, the computer was programmed for a 22 heat round robin for a combined Pro and Sportsman event.
Three hours later, Greg Burstein demonstrated ho slot car racing pro qualifying mastery of the class by winning the race by a whopping 17 laps over car owner Ryan Archambault.
The battle for third was tight with 5 drivers within 3 laps of each other with Rob Hayes taking third followed by Erik Eckhardt, G-Jet Pro Podium - Greg Burstein 1st, Ryan Archambault 2nd, Rob Hayes 3rd and Erik Eckhardt 4th John Reimels, John Stezelecki and Peter Medeiros, making his first appearance in 18 months — welcome back Pete!
Speaking of Pete, he was also the top Sportsman followed by Paul Crosby, Donny Hall and Terry Ayer.
After a brief lunch break of, you guessed online games car race, pizza, we were back to the races with the Sportsman running Modifieds on the Purple Mile and the Pros on the Viper with CMPM.
Sportsman Modified Race Sportsman running Modifieds on the Purple Mile With the departure of a few of the Sportsman drivers, the field was down to eight which makes marshaling a tad difficult on a six lane track.
The decision was made to run only the center four lanes — green through yellow.
Paul Crosby continued his dominance of this division taking down his fourth win of the season.
Chasing hard were the dynamic duo of Terry Ayer and Hal Pierce but Paul was clearly the class of the field.
Finishing fourth was guest Cody Pare, a local youth making his second appearance with the MARC crowd.
Finishing fifth was a slightly disappointed Pete Medeiros who had some car issues in the green lane.
Pro CMPM Race With ten Pros, the CMPM was run as a 10 heat round robin utilizing all six lanes.
Having Pro CMPM Podium - Greg Burstein 4th, Ryan Archambault 3rd, Rob Hayes 2nd and John Reimels 1st run on this track with CMPM last month, all agreed to shorten practice to 90 minutes.
When the race was done, John Reimels showed that a steady race across all six lanes is an effective way to win a race by taking down the victory with a six lap cushion over second place finisher Rob Hayes.
Ryan Archambault beat his stablemate Greg Burstein taking down 3rd and 4th respectively.
Most of the field increased their lap total considerably over their performance in January.
Was the track in better condition or did we all learn from our past performance — however, it should be noted, we were still slightly off the pace set by John Pileggi last month… Thanks go to Peter Lentros for hosting this fantastic event.

John Reimels GRoNEing about the cold… Cambridge, Massachusetts February 2, 2019 — With the polar vortex in full swing, 6 brave and hearty racers made their way to Cambridge, Massachusetts to join Rob Hayes at Practice underway at Catfish International Speedway his awesome Catfish International Speedway for our GRoNE-Hogs Day event.
Tom Smith was débuting his new build, a very clean looking center-hinge anglewinder.
After a quick discussion with the group, we decided to run two gravity races sandwiched around a T-Jet race.
With only three marshals, one key to success was not falling off where there was no marshal — much easier said than done — patience was the order of the day.
Rob won the last two GRoNE events held at his track setting lap totals of 80 laps back in April of 2017 followed by an 86 lap total in November of 2017 — a great target to shoot for.
The racing was tight throughout the field but when it was all done, John Reimels was able to beat Rob to the finish line by 2 laps followed by Paul Ryer and Dave Muse.

Jim Macartney also swapped the resister pack in his trusty DiFalco controller to get a better handle on the power band of these M20 motors.
Both of these changes seemed to help judging by the lap times they were running in practice.
Tom Smith borrowed my other M10 motored sidewinder for a change of pace.
The others stuck with what they ran in the first race.
Maybe it was the track conditions or the fact that we all had full Same as above but this time showing the naughty bits stomachs, but the lap totals saw a significant jump up.
Despite running a much older version of my car, I was able to take down the win beating my first race total by 3 laps.
Tommy Gray had an awesome race taking down 2 nd beating his first race lap total by 13 laps!
I think he likes the new tires… Rob Hayes finished third followed by a real tight battle for fourth with Paul Ryer beating Jim Macartney by 8 sections.
Jim also increased his first race lap total by 13 laps.

The calendar in March is just filled to the brim with MARC and MAHOPRA events making a GRoNE event in March unreasonable.
We had a few folks making their first appearance of the season including John Pileggi, Dan Decosmo, Benny Leyro, Mike Resnick and Greg Burstein as well as Cody Pare making his first ever MARC event.
Racing at LenJet does tend to bring out the crowd.
Spec Racers on the Purple Mile Practicing on the Purple Mile First up were Spec Racers on the Purple Mile with both the Pros and Sportsman competing together in one large 23 heat round robin.
Spec Racers on this track have always been a MARC favorite, the rhythm and out right speed are addictive.
At the conclusion of the 3 hour episode, Ryan Archambault once again proved his mastery of building fast cars by taking the top three finishing position — Greg Burstein in first, Ryan in second and Dan Decosmo in third.
John Pileggi and John Reimels finished 4 th and 5 th respectively but well off the pace of the cars from the Archambault stable.
Finishing a very respectable 8 th overall and the top spot for the Sportsman division was Paul Crosby followed by Sportsman Jim Colligan is 2 nd, Terry Ayer in 3 rd and Hal Pierce in 4 th.
Pro Spec Racer Podium - Greg Burstein 1st, Ryan Archambault 2nd, Dan Decosmo 3rd and John Pileggi 4th The race was followed by a welcome lunch break where many slices of pizza were consumed.
Nothing like a three hour race to increase the appetite.
This helped shorten the day by a few hours and let the Sportsman experience the added speed of the Modifieds on the awesome Sportsman Spec Racer Podium - Paul Crosby 1st, Jimmy Colligan 2nd, Tery Ayer 3rd and Hal Pierce 4th Purple Mile.
John beat Ryan for the top spot by over 60 laps, a whopping 10 laps a lane advantage.

Celebrating the New Year with a GRoNE Ashland Massachusetts December 29, 2018 — With 4 — 5 of the gravity stalwarts unable to make the event, we were lucky to have a total of 9 participants join us on Peter's Latest Acquisition - The Bear December 29 th for our first gravity event since the 2018 Nats — some folks had to leave early, some arrived late so we only had 7 to 8 entrees per race but the field was large enough to successfully conduct the event.
Thanks go to the long-distance https://festes.ru/car-racing/free-online-car-racing-games-for-adults.html who made the event, namely Tom Bussmann, Mike Tiffany and Tommy Gray — without you guys, we might have had to cancel the event!
Peter Lentros had his LenJet facility all set for the affair; in addition to coffee and Danish, the Viper and the Bear tracks were ready for the Gravity races and the Shamrock Glen was all prepped for the T-Jet race.
We were concerned that the layout may not be suitable for gravity cars, boy were we wrong; the cars handled the track with no issues.
The wide sweeper onto the front straight was key to getting a fast lap, hang the tail out just a bit and nail it approaching the straight — the only place on the entire track to use full throttle.
For the rest of the track, handling was key — especially in the esses.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy running these cars on this immaculate track, all it took was a bit of patience, a lot of practice and a car that handled well.
After 90 minutes of open practice folks were anxious to get the show on the road.
First Gravity Race Podium - Donny Hall 2nd, John Reimels 1st and Mike Resnick 3rd We had 7 participants for the first race, all using various vintages of my anglewinder design.
I was hoping that someone would try an AFX based car, they might be the ticket on this tight track.
The battle for the podium was tight with Mike Resnick in third pushing Donny Hall hard for second with me in front by only 4 laps for first.

Tom Bussmann made the trek up from Danbury CT in time to join us for this race.
The Glen is a great track for T-Jets, long T-Jet Podium - John Reimels 2nd, Donny Hall 1st and Dave Muse 3rd enough straights and fast sweepers so horsepower is required with enough tight turns and esses so handling is important.
Once again, racing was tight throughout the field, no more than 3 laps separated any finishing position.
Donny Hall proved he had the right stuff by taking down the win by 3 laps over me in second.
Dave Muse beat Peter Lentros by 2 sections to take down third.

The food there is always great, especially the roast beef.
With Mike Resnick having afternoon obligations, Second Gravity Race on the Viper - quite a difference from the Bear.
We decided to run the center four lanes leaving only three folks to marshal.
Turns out we made a good choice, the carnage was much less than expected and the three marshals easily handled the offs.
What a difference between the Bear and the Viper, the Viper is fast, fast, fast — the cars were a blast to drive on it.
No more tip-toeing around tight bends, it was flat out fun.
Good thing Peter lost a few laps before the track call or he might have won the race!
As it turns out, I beat Peter for the win by 3 laps he claims he lost 4 laps before the Second Gravity Race Podium - Peter Lentros 2nd, John Reimels 1st and Mike Tiffany 3rd track call, I think it was only 2….
Mike Tiffany drove an awesome race finishing in third, one lap behind Peter he wishes we had waited another lap before calling track for Peter….
Dave Muse ran a very smooth and consistent race to finish 4 th, one lap behind Mike.

Many tracks use banks of lead-acid batteries to produce sufficient high amp DC power, but in recent years, relatively inexpensive high-quality electronically regulated power supplies have become more popular to achieve consistent and clean power.
The quickest to run is called round robin, which can be run in either of two ways.
The first and least common way is begin with one driver on one lane of the track, a segment usually consisting of 2 minutes is run in which the driver attempts to complete as many laps as he can.
The second and most common way to run a round robin is to have four drivers or as many as there are lanes start at a time, and rotate through all the lanes, before being replaced by the next set of drivers.
